Cufflinks in solid chandi, made to order
A pair of cufflinks is the one piece of jewellery a Pakistani man wears in public without anyone calling it jewellery. It sits at the wrist, catches the light when he raises a hand at the nikkah, and afterwards it is the only thing separating his shirt from every other white shirt in the room. Zanvari makes cufflinks — kaf link, as they are asked for at a Karachi shirtmaker's counter — the same way we make our rings: by hand, in solid 925 sterling silver (chandi), and cut to order rather than pulled off a shelf.
This is a small and deliberate range. Five pairs: one set with ruby (yaqoot), one with emerald (zamurd), and three with moissanite. 925 sterling silver, and the finish you are choosing
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, alloyed for the hardness a wearable piece needs — pure silver on its own is too soft to hold a stone setting or a spring closure.
Silver reacts with sulphur in the air and darkens, and in Karachi's humid coastal air an unplated surface can show it within months. That is what rhodium plating answers: a thin, very hard white-metal layer that resists tarnish and gives a brighter, more platinum-like face. The three moissanite pairs carry it; the ruby and emerald pairs are finished instead in a brushed-and-polished silver contrast. Cufflinks suit plating unusually well: unlike a ring they take almost no abrasion — no keys, no steering wheel, no desk edge — so the finish lasts far longer here than on anything worn on the hand. Noble Facet is sold with free rhodium replating for life: bring it back whenever the white loses its edge.
Will they fit your shirt?
This is the question most men get wrong, and it is worth thirty seconds before you order. Cufflinks need a cuff with a buttonhole on both leaves and no sewn-on button:
- French cuff (also called a double cuff) — the cuff folds back on itself and carries four holes. This is the correct cuff, and what a proper dress shirt or a good business shirt from a Karachi or Lahore shirtmaker will have.
- Convertible cuff — a single-layer cuff with a button but also a hole on both sides. Cufflinks work here.
- Barrel cuff — one layer, one sewn button, one hole. Cufflinks will not pass through as-is. A good darzi can convert it by removing the button and working a matching hole opposite, but on a fine shirt it is cleaner to have the next set stitched as double cuffs from the start.
If the cuff folds back and there are holes on both leaves, the link passes through. If you are having shirts made for a wedding, tell the tailor "double cuff" before he cuts — it is the one decision here that costs nothing.

Looking after them
Keep them dry, put them on after the attar or cologne rather than before, and store them closed and away from open air. A soft dry cloth after wearing handles almost everything else; our silver care guide covers the rest. Never use toothpaste or a household abrasive on a stone-set face.
