The Fire

The ruby does not borrow its colour from anything. It is the colour. And once you have worn one, nothing else looks quite as alive.

What makes a natural ruby
worth wearing for a lifetime

Ruby ranks 9 on the Mohs hardness scale — just below diamond, above nearly everything else. It does not scratch easily. It does not fade. Worn daily for decades, a well-set ruby looks precisely as it did the day it was set, provided the silver is cared for around it.

Its colour comes from chromium — a trace element that does not wash out, cannot be applied, and cannot be faked by any process that produces a stone worth owning.

Synthetic rubies exist. They are chemically identical. But they lack the inclusions, the growth patterns, the slight imperfections that make a natural stone a record of its own formation. At Zanvari, every ruby in the Aatish collection is certified natural.

Common questions
about the natural ruby

01
What does "natural" actually mean?
It means the stone formed in the earth — not in a laboratory. Natural rubies have inclusions, slight colour variations, and growth patterns that synthetic stones lack. These are not defects. They are the stone's proof of origin.
02
Will the colour change
over time?
No. The red in a natural ruby comes from chromium — a chemical element, not a dye or coating. The colour is permanent. A properly stored and occasionally cleaned ruby will look the same in thirty years.
03
What range of red will my stone be?
Natural rubies range from light pinkish-red to deep crimson. No two are identical. When you order, the atelier selects a stone within your preferred range, and — for sets — matches stones by eye before setting begins.
04
Is it suitable for
everyday wear?
Yes. At hardness 9, ruby is among the most durable gemstones available. It is more resistant to scratching than sapphire, emerald, or any semi-precious stone. The 925 silver setting should be kept dry when possible and replated periodically — which Zanvari does for free, for life.
