Peridot (olivine) is one of the few gemstones that forms in a single colour family — green, produced by iron in its crystal structure. The specific shade — vivid, warm, slightly yellow-tinged parrot green — is unmistakable and belongs to no other stone. Natural peridot has a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, suitable for pendants worn with reasonable care.
