Natural amethyst — the stone

Amethyst is the most prized variety of quartz, coloured by iron impurities that produce its characteristic violet-purple hue. The finest amethysts show a strong reddish-purple to deep violet tone in natural light. Natural amethyst has a Mohs hardness of 7, making it suitable for pendants worn with care.
