Neelam (نیلم) is the Urdu and Hindi name for blue sapphire — from the Sanskrit nīla, simply "blue" — and it is the same corundum the English trade calls sapphire. Every piece here is set with an earth-mined blue sapphire and finished by hand in our Karachi workshop, in 925 sterling silver (chandi).

Fifty-one natural blue sapphire pieces, all in 925 sterling silver:

• Rings — 27 designs, reaching A Legacy of Blue, a 1.25ct Ceylon stone, at Rs 58,900. Six are men's sapphire rings, from Endeavour Sapphire at Rs 22,300 to Blue Knight at Rs 42,000. The natural sapphire ring collection narrows this page to the rings alone.

Ceylon stones, and why we name the origin

Sri Lanka — Ceylon — is the origin South Asian buyers have trusted for generations, valued for a blue that stays lively under a lamp rather than going inky. Where a stone is Ceylon we say so in the title: A Legacy of Blue, Endeavour Sapphire, and Ceylon Skyfall Sapphire, a 1.5ct cushion-cut necklace at Rs 122,000. Where the title does not say Ceylon, please do not assume it — ask, and we will tell you what we know.

Natural, lab-created or glass — read the title

If the title says natural sapphire, the stone is earth-mined. If it says lab-created, synthetic, simulated or blue glass sapphire, it is not. If it says only "sapphire" with no qualifier, ask before you assume — and that piece is not in this collection. We make all three kinds; only natural stones appear here.

Natural does not mean untreated. Gentle heating to settle colour is standard, accepted practice across the world's sapphire trade, and most commercial blue sapphire has been through it — including most of what is sold as neelam in Pakistan. What matters is that it is disclosed. Ask about any stone here and we will tell you what we know of its treatment history.

Choosing the stone: colour, clarity, carat

• Colour — the single biggest factor. A medium-to-deep blue with visible life beats a darker stone that reads black indoors. Daylight and warm indoor light are two different tests; ask us for both.
• Clarity — natural sapphire has inclusions. Silk and fine internal veils are normal, and are part of what tells you a stone grew in the ground. Eye-clean matters more in a solitaire than a halo.
• Carat — we state weight in the title where the stone is the point: 0.65ct on Grandeur Sapphire Bloom at Rs 13,800, 0.89ct on Blue Knight, 2ct on The Wisdom Stone of Sapphire. Price climbs faster than presence does; a well-cut one-carat stone often out-performs a flat two-carat one.
• Hardness — sapphire is corundum, 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond. That is the practical case for neelam over a softer stone in a ring worn daily.

One piece here is certified outright — Dreamy Sapphire Dangles, whose title names its GGI report. GGI is a Karachi gemmological laboratory whose certificates can be verified online. For any other stone here we can have a report drawn before the piece ships — ask before you order and we will confirm what it carries.

Who can wear neelam

In South Asian astrological tradition neelam is associated with Saturn, with long-standing guidance on who should wear it, on which finger and on which day. We sell neelam as jewellery, not as a remedy, and make no claim about what a stone will do for anyone's health or fortune. Pieces are made to order in Karachi, so tell us your ring size before you buy — our ring size guide converts millimetres to Pakistani and US sizes, and crafting time is stated on each product page. We deliver nationwide with cash on delivery. If a ring does not fit, our returns and exchange policy allows 30 days to request an exchange and we remake the piece; refunds run on a shorter window and carry a service charge, so read the terms first. A stone can usually be swapped for a larger carat or a different setting. The same work goes into yaqoot and zamurd.

Is neelam hard enough for a ring worn every day?

Yes. Sapphire is corundum, which sits at 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, second only to diamond. That is the practical reason to choose neelam over a softer coloured stone if you want a ring you can wear daily rather than keep for occasions. Everyday wear will still mark the silver over time, and we can re-polish a piece for you.

How long does a piece take, and what happens if the size is wrong?
