Topaz is an aluminium silicate mineral that occurs naturally in colourless, blue, honey, sherry-brown and pink. Blue topaz is the birthstone of December. At 8 on the Mohs scale it is a hard, durable stone, though it has a natural cleavage plane and so should not be knocked hard against a surface. Pakistan is itself a notable source of fine topaz — the Katlang deposits in Mardan are known worldwide for their pink material. Each stone differs in tone and clarity. The moissanite accents surrounding it give brilliant white sparkle against the blue, creating a ring that is both striking and easy to wear every day.
