A stone that needs room

Blue topaz is one of the few gemstones that gets better as it gets bigger. Its colour is relatively light, so a small stone reads as almost colourless — it takes real size before the blue has enough depth of material to gather and hold. At 5 to 7 carats, this stone has that depth. Set on a signet dome, where the bezel sits proud of a solid silver face and nothing competes for attention, the blue is the entire point of the ring.

The oval cut helps. Its elongated shape gives light a longer path through the stone than a round of equal weight, which deepens the apparent colour, and it sits naturally along the line of the finger rather than across it.

About blue topaz

Topaz is an aluminium silicate that forms in long prismatic crystals — among the largest gem crystals found anywhere, occasionally reaching several kilograms. It scores 8 on the Mohs scale, harder than quartz, emerald, or peridot, and well suited to a ring worn regularly.

An honest note on colour. Almost all blue topaz on the world market — including this stone — begins as colourless natural topaz and is given its blue by irradiation and heat, a treatment that has been standard in the gem trade for decades. Naturally blue topaz exists but is extremely rare and usually very pale. The stone is genuine natural topaz: mined, not manufactured. The colour is permanent, stable, and will not fade with wear. Zanvari would rather tell you this plainly than let you assume otherwise.

Spiritual significance

Topaz has long been considered a stone of clarity, truth, and calm judgement. In South Asian and Persian tradition it is worn to steady the mind, cool anger, and bring the wearer's intentions into focus. Blue topaz in particular is associated with clear communication — saying what you actually mean.

Care instructions

Topaz is hard but has perfect cleavage in one direction, which means a sharp knock at the wrong angle can split it even though it resists scratching. Remove the ring before manual work or sport. Never use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, and avoid sudden temperature changes. Clean with a soft damp cloth only. Zanvari's lifetime replating guarantee covers the finish for life, and workmanship is covered for six months.

Frequently asked questions

Is the topaz natural?

Yes — it is genuine earth-mined natural topaz, not glass and not synthetic. Its blue colour comes from irradiation and heat treatment, which is standard for virtually all blue topaz sold worldwide. The colour is permanent and will not fade.

Is it hard enough for everyday wear?

Yes, with sensible care. At 8 on the Mohs scale, topaz resists scratching better than most coloured stones. Its one weakness is cleavage — a hard, direct impact can split it — so the bezel setting matters here, since it shields the edge of the stone where a knock would land.

Will my stone look exactly like the photograph?

Not exactly. Each stone varies slightly in tone and internal character, and falls within the 5 to 7 carat range. The photograph shows one example of the quality tier you will receive.

Is this a good December birthday gift?

Yes. Blue topaz is the birthstone of December and the traditional fourth anniversary stone. At 5 to 7 carats on a men's signet, it carries considerably more presence than most birthstone jewellery.

MOISSANITE IN MALE BAND

Moissanite is a rare gemstone originally discovered in a meteor crater. Today, it’s lab-grown to offer unmatched sparkle, durability, and fire — even more than a diamond. It's the perfect choice for modern men who want luxury, strength, and ethical value in one timeless piece.

Is moissanite durable for everyday wear?

Absolutely. Moissanite scores 9.25 on the Mohs scale, making it second only to diamonds in hardness — ideal for daily use in men's rings.
