The Pakistan connection

Peridot is one of the few gemstones where Pakistan sits at the very top of the world market. Since the 1990s, the Sapat valley in Kohistan, high in the Himalayas, has produced large, clean, richly coloured peridot that rivals the legendary Egyptian material. The stone in this ring comes from the same tradition — a gem born in volcanic rock deep in the earth, cut and set by hand in Karachi. Peridot is also one of the only gemstones found in meteorites, which is why the ancient Egyptians called it "the gem of the sun."
