Moissanite is silicon carbide, a lab-created gemstone that scores 9.25 on the Mohs scale — second only to diamond in hardness. It carries more fire than diamond (dispersion 0.104 against 0.044), so even at 2.5mm it throws a flash of white and rainbow light every time you turn your head.
